Feline Friday: Merry Miso

Miso eagerly awaits the festive season so that she can wear her seasonal wings. It can be difficult to see past her angelic presentation to the mischievous foundation that lends to opening presents early (’cause ribbon is fun to pull), and landing in Christmas trees (’cause climbing is awesome and now there’s a tree in the house!).

Feline Friday: Lazy Lumi

After a hard day of work (sleeping/eating), Lumi likes to end the week by vegging out on the couch for the entire weekend. It’s important to claim your spot early, calling couch dibs if possible. It also helps if you have a little extra body mass to squash any potential antagonizers. She’s definitely doing it right.

Gary prefers tiny vessels to deliver his sustenance. Even though the other cats tease him about his kitten habit, he has yet to give up the bottle. 

An Attempt to Capture Chaos

“Chaos was the law of nature; order was the dream of man.”

While admiring the endless beauty around me on a hike with my family, I came across this aged apple tree. All of the apples had dropped, the only evidence that it bore fruit this year were a few cores left behind by the deer. But it wasn’t the graceful, twisting branches reaching skyward that pulled at my attention, it was the excessive amount of moss that clung to every section of bark. When I got closer for a better look, the concept of chaos presented itself to me.

Get It Covered!

 

So according to the NaNoWriMo website, a novel with a cover is 60% more likely to win. With a statement like that, how could I not add a cover?

I’ve been intrigued by multiple posts from self publishers praising cover design services. Like any service, there are ranging in quality vs price points and time line. I’ve looked through a few of the galleries and thought to myself, “I think I could do that.”

So here’s my first attempt. What do you think? Would you pick this book up if you passed by it at the bookstore? 

Brushing off my design skills has been fun/painful, but I am enjoying the creative outlet. I was considering a post that would show the different photos used for this cover compilation, is that something that you readers might be interested in?

I’m struggling to address you, the reader, directly, because I’m petrified that no one will answer these questions, and I’ll feel like the left out kid at the park. But embracing a fear creates a strength, so I am gonna just go with it!

Boxes on a Beak

I know, I’m reaching on this one. Boxes on a beak? What in the world is she talking about? Well, you see, the Inktober topic is “box” for today, and I was set on drawing a raven since it’s the time of year and all.. so there you go, boxes on a beak! 

When I was in elementary school, there was an aged, dilapidated house right next door to our building. A cliche, grumpy, old man lived in the house that was surrounded by a wall of pine trees. The story was that the old man hated people, and never talked to anyone; but he talked to the animals. 

Backwards Escape

My escape usually involves a good book and a warm, comfy chair. But how do the characters within my books escape the stressors of their situations? Turn your back on your library for one moment, and you might find out…

Once again messing around for Inktober. Not sure how I feel about the result of this one, but there comes a time when I can’t force my photoshop skills to level up on command and I have to call it good.

The Waste of Waiting

Rather than waiting for the jaws of death to do their thing, Frank decided that a gentlemanly battle was more appropriate. Although a sharp stick was used in place of the customary slapping glove, Frank felt justified since his aggressor was well outside his weight class.
